May 17th and its history

Today is the Norwegian Nationaldag. People dress up in funny costumes to watch children screaming and playing with instruments on the streets. The Norwegians are very malliga about their children's "parade". The Russ (not Russian) is going wild and crazy as usually and there are people everywhere. You can by an ice cream for 9kronor at Narvesen and don't forget to by one of those blow-tings that are so annoying.

May 14th, 1814 Norway gathered a bunch of farmers at Eidsvoll that signed a piece of paper that said that they where an independent country. In the second paragraph it said that there was religious freedom, but Jews was not allowed. Norway was actually already signed to the Swedish king Karl Johan but the farmers did not seem to care. The Swedes let the farmers keep their Grundlag and instead formed a union with the country.

We are all grateful for that, because now we have a day off!
